Ben Clymer Presents: Ep. 10 – The Bremont Episode With Davide Cerrato

1/24/2024
For this final episode, Ben is joined by Davide Cerrato, the CEO of Bremont. Cerrato has had a long and successful career in the watch industry since starting at Panerai in 2004. He's probably best known for his tenure at Tudor, during which the brand relaunched in the United States and introduced the Black Bay line. But he's not all business; the jovial and well-dressed Italian brings his unique sense of style to the staid Swiss watch industry. After Tudor, he made stops at Montblanc and HYT before being announced as the CEO of Bremont in May 2023. The announcement came after billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and Hellcat Acquisitions LP invested $59 million in Bremont in a funding round that the Financial Times reported valued the company at more than £100 million. As Cerrato tells us, Bremont is gearing up for a "relaunch" of the brand at Watches & Wonders in April 2024 – the first time it'll exhibit at the annual trade show in Geneva. In this Ben Clymer Presents conversation, Cerrato tells us about his vision for Bremont and the opportunities he sees, his 20-plus years in watches, and a little bit of Italian tailoring. // Show Notes // 2:00: Road Through Britain Episode 3: Bremont Watch Company 3:00: Bremont Names Industry Vet Davide Cerrato As New CEO 3:00: Interview: New Bremont CEO Davide Cerrato On His Plans For The Brand, What It Means To Be Made In England, And Developing A Hero Product 16:02: Introducing: The Bremont Wright Flyer 26:10: The Bremont Martin Baker MBII 27:00: Bremont Military Watches And Special Projects (via Bremont's website) 28:28: The Bremont Ministry of Defense Collection 33:10: Introducing: The Rexhep Rexhepi Chronometre Contemporain II 36:55: In-Depth: Luminous Dials, What Makes Them Glow, And How To Spot Their Differences

Ben Clymer Presents: Ep. 8 – The Vintage Patek Episode for John Reardon

12/13/2023
Welcome to a new podcast series from Hodinkee called Ben Clymer Presents. Hosted by Hodinkee's own founder, Ben Clymer Presents offers a special chat between Ben and subject experts from the world of watches and, sometimes, elsewhere. It's a limited series that will run weekly for the next ten weeks, with new episodes every Wednesday in both video and audio. Want the video? Swing by Hodinkee's YouTube channel (or watch below). Just want the audio? It's being published to the same podcast feed as Hodinkee Radio, so check your feeds or subscribe wherever you find your podcasts (might we recommend Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, or TuneIn). //Episode 8 // For this Patek Philippe-focused episode, Ben is joined by John Reardon, the founder of Collectability.com (and former Hodinkee contributor). John is an expert in all things vintage Patek, and the two talk about where the brand's auction fascination started and how that has been reflected in a broad collection of special references (think: 3700 to 5711, and the likes of the 5970, 3970, 3448, 5270, 5070 chronograph, and even the legendary 2499). It's a walk down memory lane as both Ben and John recall exciting moments in their history with Patek's watches alongside the more macro trends that have seen some references shine while others wait for a spot in the limelight. We hope you love the episode – a big thanks to John for coming on the show; you can find more of his work at Collectability.com. Ben Clymer Presents: 07 – New York Auction Preview Episode With Tony Traina and Mark Kauzlarich

12/6/2023
In this episode, Ben sits down with Hodinkee editors Mark Kauzlarich and Tony Traina. After a morning of previewing the New York watch auctions at Sotheby's and Phillips, the three chat about the state of the market and watch auctions before jumping into their thoughts on some of the watches they saw in New York. There's a discussion of vintage Patek and Rolex – including the collection of one collector beloved by the community – but also other brands, indies, and even our favorite Richard Milles. At the end of it all, the trio pick their favorite watches that they saw, as well as the lots they'll be watching to get a gauge on the state of the auction market.
