Jackson Arnold debut derailed by 6 turnovers

12/29/2023
The Sooners fall to Arizona 38-24 in a game that was as ridiculous as it was interesting. The Sooners committed 6 turnovers in the game. Three of those were interceptions by freshman phenom Jackson Arnold. So what happened? And what does this mean for this team moving forward? Where are the biggest issues on this team headed to 2024 and what can be fixed the most? Carey, Eddie and George convene for the last time from San Antonio to break it all down from the final stop of the 2023 football season. George is a little miffed about postgame media access as well. U40: OU beats TCU 69-45, finishes 10-2 on the season

11/24/2023
Oklahoma finished out the regular season by beating TCU 69-45. It wasn't a pretty game defensively but offensively, it was a great way to send out Dillon Gabriel and Drake Stoops. Brent Venables has gone from 6-7 to 10-2 and we take some time to celebrate what that should mean moving forward. And what about players like Danny Stutsman, Jalil Farooq and Billy Bowman. Will they be back with the Sooners next year? What about the transfer portal? What do the Sooners need to add? They can't take everyone. So where do they go to fill the biggest holes? That's what she said. Eddie and George turned this into a family Thanksgiving by picking at each other throughout the pod. And we show plenty of appreciation for the things Dillon Gabriel did for this program over the last couple of years. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

OU wins 31-24 over BYU. But lose Gabriel for second half

11/18/2023
It was not an easy victory. BYU put up a fight on a rainy day that made a sloppy field even more sloppy. But the concerning part of the day was losing Dillon Gabriel just before halftime to a concussion. So the question becomes whether he can be ready to play on a short week as the Sooners take on TCU Friday at 11am. The Sooners did have Jackson Arnold behind Gabriel. But as he got his feet wet as the OU starter, Gavin Sawchuk got his feet red hot as he broke off some big runs and housed it from 16 yards out. The defense wasn't great. Part of that could have been Danny Stutsman battling through food poisoning. But the secondary is getting thin and it's starting to become a problem for a team that gave up too many chunk plays. Lebby shows offense can still impress in 59-20 rout of WVU

11/12/2023
The Sooners did it. They got a lead and built on it and built on it and built on it. Even when West Virginia took the ball 75 yards in four plays to start the game, OU answered with a 75-yard, 4 play drive of their own. Dillon Gabriel passed for 5 TDs and ran for 3. There was a brawl in the endzone, Danny Stutsman was back and leading the team in tackles. Kip Lewis started over Jaren Kanak. Drake Stoops has turned into a beast over the past two weeks and we're up late to make sure we get this thing out there. Carey and George try and explain the Big 12 tiebreaker rules even though they barely can put together sentences at this time of the morning. Basically Texas losing to Iowa State is the best medicine. And if you thought OU's Texas hangover was bad, wait until you see Oklahoma State's Bedlam hangover. We breakdown the big win and the crowd's distaste for referees. Learn more about your ad choices. U40: The Bedlam loss has broken us (but mainly George)

11/4/2023
Oklahoma loses Bedlam 27-24. Later that evening three dudes get together to talk about what happened. We've crossed some boundaries here. I will admit that. This is not the podcast to listen to with children in the car. George is fed up with this season. And he lets all of us know it. The offense continues to suffer from prosperity allergies. They just don't have a killer instinct. The defense wasn't perfect, but they were damn good at times even without Danny Stutsman. We can complain about every position on offense. But in the end, it's not cohesive, it's not reliable and it remains the most inconsistent offense we've seen in years. There's going to be a lot of hate flowing this week. Some of it came during this pod. Hopefully this is a cathartic listen and not a tough one for all the fans out there trying to figure out how the Sooners fix this. Learn more about your ad choices. OU has problems on offense and it starts with the coaches

10/28/2023
Eddie and George are in Lawrence, Kan., and they have just watched the Sooners fall to the Kansas Jayhawks for the first time since 1997. This isn't a drunk pod, but you might call it the accusation pod. Or the complaint department pod. We breakdown what we saw today on both sides of the ball. It was another disjointed performance by an OU offense that wasn't supposed to be facing a great defense. There were too many penalties, too many turnovers and too many reminders of how bad this team was a year ago. Because this team is starting to look a little bit like last year's squad. Is Jeff Lebby big enough for this job? We actually have to ask that question after the last two offensive performances. With Bedlam on the horizon, this team needs to get it together fast. Or they could get embarrassed in the last Bedlam game as we know it. It was not a good day and we want answers. Join us on this week's Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. U40: The postgame gets heated as OU barely wins against UCF

10/21/2023
Carey, Josh, Eddie and George all jump in and go after the issues after the Sooners squeak out a 31-29 victory over UCF on Owen Field. The offense and special teams set a very ominous tone on an afternoon that had fans wanting to support their conquering Red River Rivalry foes. But the Sooners came out uninspired on offense and incapable on special teams. The defense did it's job, but the rest was a little too white knuckle for anyone's taste. We talk about the Tawee Walker suspension, what this close win means going forward, the state of the Big 12, the state of the running back room and much, much more. It's almost a full crew. Eddie was a few beers deep. We also go through the short list of stock up from today's game. There were some positives. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gabriel helps cap a game for the ages in OU's 34-30 win over Texas

10/7/2023
Eddie said it best in this podcast. Brent Venables Oklahoma football program just accelerated during today's 34-30 win over the Texas Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. Dillon Gabriel put together a performance for the ages and any Sooner fans on the fence about how far he can lead this OU team has to adjust their thinking. Gabriel was magical at times with his feet. He made a lot of big plays with his arm. And the biggest throw of the day with just :15 seconds left. It gave the Sooners an improbable comeback victory. But it wasn't just the offense. OU's defense came in and went toe-to-toe with a team everything thought would be more physical than the Sooners. In fact, both sides of the line were the more physical units for most of the game. Carey, Eddie and George break it all down and give their biggest takeaways from an incredible day in Dallas. Gabriel looks better than the defense in 50-20 win. OU-TX up next.

10/1/2023
The Eskridge Lexus Postgame is here as Carey, Eddie and George breakdown OU's 50-20 win over Iowa State. But who are we kidding? OU-TX is coming and it's going to be one of the biggest games in years inside the Cotton Bowl. We give Dylan Gabriel his leis, and we talk about the defensive lapses in the first half. We go stock up and stock down with George for the first time. Some harsh grading was made. But we also get a head start on the matchup with Texas, the mentality of OU's team right now and how that will mesh with Texas' big game experience so far this season. So much to go over and so much to talk about this coming week. It gets started right here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

OU defense turning into a menace as OU wins 20-6

9/23/2023
Oklahoma traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats in their first true road test. Amongst a rowdy crowd the Sooners missed some opportunities to separate themselves early. Dillon Gabriel missed some deep balls to open receivers but overall put together a winning performance. The run game is as perplexing as ever as only Marcus Major and Tawee Walker took snaps. But the defense was there to hold it all together. Danny Stutsman had 13 tackles to lead the defense and it's clear Brent Venables has changed the mentality of this unit. Key Lawrence continues to come on and Billy Bowman made a reception deep in OU territory as well. Sooners rout Tulsa 66-17. The good, the bad and the not so ugly

9/17/2023
Carey links up with Eddie and George who are live from The University of Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium. We talk about the explosive day for Dillon Gabriel and the young players who emerged at receiver and on both sides of the ball. Suddenly that receiving corps has life and looks great. What about the running game? And how is the offensive line coming along. The defense had mostly good moments but Kevin Wilson did some stuff to that secondary that shows work is still needed. But what do we really take from this? We saw this team fall apart after an impressive win on the road in Nebraska a year ago. Well, Cincinnati is up next and they will be plenty mad after dropping an unexpected one tonight during the pod. All your postgame coverage and thoughts right here on the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Oh yeah, and what about the Jackson Arnold package? We have lots to say on that one. A 28-11 SMU wins shows concerns on offense

9/10/2023
Carey, Eddie and George are here for the Eskridge Lexus Postgame podcast where we breakdown the Sooners 28-11 victory over the SMU Mustangs. The defense was awesome and Danny Stutsman looks like the guy we always thought he could be. In fact, we talk about a lot of different players on the defense who stood out Saturday evening. But we don't have as many stars to talk about on the offensive side of the ball outside of Tawee Walker. We can sprinkle in some Andrel Anthony, Jalil Farooq and Marcus Major (at the end of the game), but there was too much inconsistency. And what was up with the Jackson Arnold plan? We have doubts moving forward. There was also the little incident of Art Briles showing up after the game and hanging out on Owen Field with OU Jordan gear on. People are not happy in our jTwitter/X mentions over this. Tulsa is coming next week but we give you almost a full hour of late night thoughts on what we saw against SMU. Brent Venables opens season 2 with a complete blowout victory

9/3/2023
The Oklahoma Sooners took out Arkansas State like we've rarely seen in a season opener at home. The 73-0 was complete and showed very few flaws in the first game coming off a 6-7 season in 2022. Dillon Gabriel through for 308 yards on 19-of-22 passing and 2 TDs. When the second half started with a 45-0 score, Gabriel's day was done. He handed off the keys to Jackson Arnold, who went 11-for-11 for 114 yards and 1 TD. Josh, Carey, Eddie and George are all here to break it down. We even dig into the Tawee Walker discussion from last week. Running backs, receivers, safeties, corners.. we cover all the positions. There was a lot to see on Owen Field Saturday afternoon. And we break it all down. And also, what happened at Lindsey Street? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Fans get plenty of QB looks in spring game but defense impresses

4/23/2023
Sooners fans got a chance to see an extended look at freshman five-star Jackson Arnold at today's Red & White scrimmage. How did the guys see things? Dillon Gabriel ran with the first team offense all day and had his moments after a slow start. In the end, the defense was the most impressive part of today's scrimmage. The transfer portal appears to have been kind to Brent Venables on defense. We break down everything we saw. The running game? Broken down. The receivers? Broken down? The defensive line? You get it. We broke it down. Eddie had a cringy moment near the end of the scrimmage and Carey attacks George over his watch. Welcome back Eskridge Lexus Postgame. Even if just for one brief podcast. Sooners fall in Cheez-It Bowl but optimism remains

1/2/2023
Carey and Eddie finally sit down back in Norman to record the Eskridge Lexus Postgame pod/season wrap-up episode. The Sooners finished the season with a 6-7 record and it's still a losing record. Not something that will ever be acceptable at Oklahoma. But major questions marks were getting ready to greet us heading into the offseason. And with the way the offensive line played, the way Gavin Sawchuck performed and there are fewer issues than we might have thought. The Sooners could have been blown out in Orlando with the opt-outs and injuries. But they battled, and almost pulled out a victory. Ultimately, the Sooners will have to improve for Brent Venables to build the legacy he hopes to build in Norman. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's over. OU loses and finishes 6-6 in the regular season.

11/27/2022
Everyone is back from Lubbock and we're ready to talk about it. The Sooners lose the regular season finale in OT to Texas Tech. Carey and Eddie start things out and Josh joins us as he returns home from his trip to Oklahoma. What went wrong and how it gets fixed. What does Brent Venables need to do to fix the problems with game management. How does he need to fix things with Jeff Lebby and the offense that just can't go fast enough for him, even when it hurts the Sooners' chances of winning? What changes do we see coming? What players are in and who is out? And how is the culture of this team after 12 games and a lot of disappointment? Josh joins in about 40 minutes in to give his thoughts on what he saw this weekend and throughout the season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A Bedlam victory and a great defensive effort

11/20/2022
The Oklahoma Sooners move to 6-5 and make themselves bowl eligible with a win over Oklahoma State Saturday night on Owen Field. It was also senior night and Drake Stoops was one of the brightest offensive stars of the night. But the offensive stars took a backseat the defense which intercepted four passes from Spencer Sanders and kept getting big stop after big stop even when the offense wasn't helping. And the offense wasn't just not helping, they were actually hurting the defense but going three-and-out and not taking enough time off the clock. For all the blame we've lobbed on players for not seeming to care about their performances this season, it was the coaching staff that stood out the most in Bedlam as they failed to control the clock on offense and kept opening the door for Oklahoma State to make a comeback. Carey and Eddie discuss it all in this Bedlam victory edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

WVU loss: What is the give a crap level of OU players?

11/12/2022
Eddie is headed back to Pittsburgh after another terrible loss by the Oklahoma Sooners. Carey is back at the office ready to tear this program down to the studs. Losing 23-20, the Sooners have us shaking our heads once again and now we're questioning even more. The coaches don't escape the criticism this time around. But Carey and Eddie noticed some things in the post game interviews tonight. Eddie also noticed something in the defeated players coming off the field. We're diving into why this team isn't getting better and what it could be about the makeup of this locker room that could lead to such dismal results on the field after 10 games. This team is 5-5. 5-5!!!!!! How can they sleep at night? The only way that's easy is if you just don't care. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sooners fall to Baylor and we have strong opinions

11/6/2022
There were a lot of emotions running throughout the Baylor game. And when it was over, there were lots of emotions about the loss. Here's the thing, Carey, Josh and Eddie got together after to record the Eskridge Lexus Postgame pod. And we had serious thoughts about what the loss should mean for fans. We're no longer talking about conventional changes on the roster or the on the staff. We want OU fans to grab some perspective. The look at the rest of the season a certain way, and judge everything based on that. There is no Big 12 title game, no playoff and not even a bowl game at this point. The Sooners went toe-to-toe with another middling Big 12 team and this time it wasn't a total debacle. But there were still way too many mistakes to stomach. This team doesn't have the right stuff. How Venables and the staff and the players finish out the season will say more about the future of this program than the 9 games we've seen so far. Learn more about your ad choices. Sooners handle Iowa State 27-13, defense looks sound again

10/30/2022
The Sooners traveled to Ames, Iowa, to face an Iowa State team that had lost four straight. But those were all close losses and the Sooners have a recent history of struggles against the Iowa State defense. It was also a case of wondering if the defense was going to show improvements after a bye week and some time to get fresh legs. It all worked out as the Sooners got a win 27-13. Jeff Lebby seemed to have Matt Campbell's offense figured out at times, but dropped passes and untimely penalties derailed some solid early drives. Thanks to kicker Zach Schmit, the Sooners took a 13-0 lead before Dillon Gabriel and the offense added more conventional TDs in the second half. The defense took a noticeable step forward as well although it wasn't perfect. Iowa State ended up throwing the ball 57 times on the day as the Sooners were stout against the run. But with three interceptions and the emergence of DaShaun White as the cheetah position, OU looked dominating at times. Iowa State did squeak back into the game, but Michael Turk finally made his presence known by pinning the Cyclones deep in their own territory late in the game. Overall a solid win and Carey and Eddie broke it down on this week's episode of the Eskridge Lexus postgame podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
