Episode 33. "How to Give & Get Help": Lessons from the Texas Freeze

2/19/2021
In this episode, I narrated how the Texas freeze impacted me and my family. In this once in a century event, there were power and water outages that created conditions unfit for wellbeing. Some lost comfort, others property and for 21 people, as at today, their lives as temperatures were subzero in degrees Celsius. It was tragic but somewhere in the thick of this week, I found a lot to be grateful for. In the words of Michael Dooley, “Disaster gave me two things: a moment to react and a decision to overcome”. I share our story of a nine-hour harrowing journey, sleeping in three homes on consecutive nights and living with uncertainty. Ultimately, I learned two things: the next time there is such a forecast, I will overestimate the impact and make adequate arrangements. So many people want to help and several others need help at such times. I shared some guidelines on how to give and get help, while honoring boundaries: yours and others. How to help people going through major events or natural disasters: How to respond to help in a major event or natural disasters: Importantly, when in weather eventualities, find humor in the situation. Lastly, be thankful for the blessings that seem so little like sunlight and rain, like water and power… few realize their importance till they are gone. Episode 31: How to be a STAR in 2021.

2/5/2021
Season 2 is finally HERE! In this first episode of 2021 and thirty-first episode of the Stellify Podcast, I share on the kind of year that 2020 was for me and who I became through it. I speak about my MESS of a year. Don’t worry, it’s not the word! It is an acronym that stands for my moments, enablers, structure and story. M: moments. The moment for me was full of depth and reflections. I sought clarity on my vision and purpose. Regardless of how bad the news got, gratitude and peace were my default emotions. I found things to be grateful for, my family, friends, health, job, everything! E: enablers. These were the supports Bralade got in 2020. “Those things that helped me fulfill my purpose and helped me execute on my goals. Those things that helped me function effectively and excellently at work.” Some of these enablers are: Coaching courses, Templates, Books. S: structure. Anything worth doing is worth creating a structure for. My days had a structure and routine that helped me center, do deep work and be there for my family. I structured work and play into my daily agenda. Here, I share my attitude and strategy to work. S: story. The stories, unique stories of 2020 leave a trail of fulfillment. My unique stories that happened in 2020 were my marriage vows renewal, my journey of being a published author and the launch of this Stellify Podcast. As you plan for a great 2021, think not more what the year would have in store for you but think who you can become this year. I outlined a STAR framework to tackling your goals this year. Set The Goal: the more detailed you get with the scope and timelines, the closer you are to achieve it. Take Stock: the first step to progress is assessing the baseline before planning to go beyond. Appraise Often: as you act, review the execution of your work, the progress you are making and the resources you need so you have all you need in the right atmosphere. Rest Easy: Girl, you gotta rest. You work so hard, take the time to rejuvenate so you can be energized to get to work on your goals. I share about my book, A Line in The Sand, that will be launched soon. Be on the lookout for it. Send me an email on hello@bralade.com if you want to lead a podcast and/or host me on your platform. Episode 26: Amplifying Nigerian Voices through Online Protests & Digitization – with Dr. Adeola

10/23/2020

Dr Adeola and host, Bralade have a candid and insightful conversation about the state of affairs in their home country. October has been both the 60th year of Nigerian Independence and arguably, the largest youth uprising since the nation’s history. This spontaneous and sporadic protests in Nigeria are both grassroots in person and online. Episode 25: “A Call to Conscience”: A Charge to Civic Duty on Protests & Beyond (#BLM #EndSARSNow)

10/16/2020
In the United States, there has been a renewed call for an end to systemic racism and in Nigeria, youths are leading the #EndSARSNow protest to end police brutality and unchecked power. At times of civil unrest, what is the citizen’s duty? On Episode 25, I draw lessons from Dr Martin Luther King’s epic speech titled “A Call to Conscience” where he called for an end to the Vietnam War. Perspectives on civic duty have never been as skewed as they are in recent times. I talk about what Civic Duty is and how we contribute to the governance of our nations and protect their democratic freedoms. Key Highlights: “A Time Comes when Silence is Betrayal”“Men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government’s policy”“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable”Who says peace and civil rights don’t mix?“our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional” There are many ways to engage: in word and in deeds, with many or with few, with complaints or with solutions… that is how we build a more perfect union. There are no bystanders in nation building. Let your conscience leave you no choice today as it was with MLK and the others that bought the freedoms we enjoy today. “To me, the relationship of this ministry to the making of peace is so obvious that I sometimes marvel at those who ask me why I am speaking against the war. Could it be that they do not know that the Good News was meant for all men—for communist and capitalist, for their children and ours, for black and for white, for revolutionary and conservative? Have they forgotten that my ministry is in obedience to the one who loved his enemies so fully that he died for them?” -Dr Martin Luther King Jr in A Call to Conscience: Beyond Vietnam. Episode 19: Purpose with Purposefulness: The Chadwick Boseman Way.

9/11/2020
On Episode 19, we learn life lessons on purpose and purposefulness from the life of Chadwick Boseman (1976 – 2020). Purpose is the reason for which something is created or for which it exists while purposefulness is that quality of having a definite purpose. It is one thing to know purpose and it is another to make every moment of your life be meaningful and relevant to that purpose. The reason for the despair and mourning at his passing at such a young age is the same reason for the celebration of his life: his achievements and his accolades but most of all, his impact, especially on the lives of black people all over the world. He used his life to tell stories of black culture from trailblazer biographies to superhero stories in Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Thurgood Marshall to T’Challa. Beyond the achievements, the courage to use his “power to give them heroes to look up to; to do it all while in pain – what a use of his years” (The Obamas). How we honor his life and purpose is to be sure “to take your time but don’t waste any time” in being intentional and purposeful about your own life. “You have to cherish things in a different way when you know your clock is ticking…” – Chadwick Boseman. Mind your purpose today and everyday, there is a whole world waiting for that deposit of God in you. Let’s continue the conversation on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn @TheStellifyPodcast.
