Dr Madeline Taylor is a costume maker and designer, researcher and educator who bridges the worlds of academic theory and industry practice. Starting as a bright-eyed costume trainee at 17, her research work draws on over two decades of professional experience spanning over 90 productions in theatre, dance, opera, circus and film across Australia and the UK. A lecturer at Queensland University of Technology, Dr Taylor's research explores the emotional and social intelligence required for creative practice, the interpersonal dynamics of collaboration, and the crucial question of "how can we work together better?" Her work frequently investigates the often-overlooked contributions of technical practitioners in the creative process, with insights applicable across the performing arts. As co-director of The Stitchery Collective, a Meanjin/Brisbane-based design group focused on prompting social and cultural change through creative practice, Madeline has championed innovative approaches to inclusivity and sustainability. Her academic credentials include a PhD from University of Melbourne, a research internship at London's Victoria & Albert Museum, and serving as Treasurer for ScenoLab, Australia’s OISTAT centre. She is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Aalto University with a project exploring how and why (or why not) costume practitioners are adopting Industry 4.0 technologies. Sana Akram is a Pakistani urbanist, media maker, a Fulbright alum and an XR creator based in Toronto, Canada. In 2020, she graduated with an MS in Design and Urban Ecologies from Parsons School of Design, The New School, where she diversified her research-practice by implementing an interdisciplinary design approach. Her award-winning interactive documentary, Little Pakistan - Future Histories, has showcased at several international festivals and her research has been published in Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies. She is the Director of the Program in Drama Therapy and Theatre & Health Lab at NYU, founder of Arts & Health @ NYU, and Chair of the NYU Creative Arts Therapies Consortium. As co-director of the Jameel Arts & Health Lab, established in collaboration with the WHO, she leads a global Lancet series on the health benefits of the arts. At NYU Abu Dhabi, Nisha developed Can Art Save Lives?, a transdisciplinary course linking arts, health, and policy. She is also a faculty advisor in NYU's Rehabilitation Sciences and Educational Theatre programs, co-teaching Improvisation and Leadership at NYU Stern. Additionally, she lectures on arts and displacement at the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma. An award-winning author, Nisha has co-authored and edited books on drama therapy, intercultural practice, and co-production in health. Her research has been published in The Lancet, Frontiers in Psychology, and The Arts in Psychotherapy, among others. She has co-produced films and exhibitions, including Drama Therapy as Performance and Fostering Democracy Through Theater. Nadia is an actress, writer, and award winning dancer & choreographer. She trained in flamenco and ballet at the Royal Conservatory of Dance and Drama in Madrid, Spain, and earned her BA in Theatre at the University of Colorado in the US. When Nadia was 14 she was in a car accident that injured her spinal cord and which requires her to walk with a cane. She hasn't let this impede her career. Nadia has taken every opportunity to find ways of working in the performing arts and challenging others’ notions of diversity and inclusion. Nadia's acting credits include theatre, commercials and independent film projects in the UK, Spain, the US and Canada. Her latest role, a lead in Filum, was directed by Claudia Hernández Barragán; Filum received the 2019 Audience Award at the ARFF-Berlin. As a dancer Nadia was a company member with CandoCo in the UK, AXIS Dance in the US, and Compañía Y in Spain. She has been featured in works by Stephen Petronio, Bill T. Jones, Arthur Pita, Rafael Bonachela, Davis Robertson, Sonya Delwaide, Chevi Muraday and Asun Noales among others. She performed at the Kennedy Centre (USA) with Mikhail Baryshnikov and has toured North America, Europe and the Middle East. She received the Isadora Duncan Dance Award for best ensemble performance with Jacques Poulin-Denis. One of the many works Nadia has choreographed, Marionette, was selected for competition at the prestigious XVI Certamen Coreográfico in Spain. Nadia is currently writing her second feature film and her first TV show.
