31 - Old Spanish Days El Presidente Erik Davis discusses a Santa Barbara Fiesta re-imagined amid a pandemic

5/26/2020
Old Spanish Days Fiesta in Santa Barbara is not just a celebration and tradition, it’s a way of life for the city since 1924. For a week every year, the city of Santa Barbara remembers the roots that made it what it is today, a fantastic city — From the Native Americans to the Spanish conquistadores that settled the area, to the early Californios and the Hispanic heritage left behind. For several days, the town puts on a show like no other, full of color and life, from the beautiful pageantry to the unforgettable colorful performances of so many dancers, to the parades and mercados, or market booths, to the delight and smiles of breaking cascarones, or confetti-filled eggshells, over your love one’s head. This year, however, Old Spanish Days organizers have had to reimagine Fiesta amid the pandemic. How will this look like? I had the opportunity to ask and hear from Old Spanish Days El Presidente Erik Davis, the head of the event, a few days ago during a live show. So for this episode today, we are doing things a little differently. We’re taking that live discussion and bringing it to the podcast format. Enjoy. 27 - The coronavirus special episode

3/16/2020
You can’t turn the corner without hearing about it, instilling fear and concern over anyone that hears its name — The coronavirus, or COVID-19 as public health officials call it. COVID-19 is responsible for thousands of deaths in China where the virus originated, and around the world, with the elderly and those with underlying health issues mostly at risk. As the pandemic continues to spread, with growing numbers in the U.S., more and more employers are telling their domestic workers to stay home. On Friday, President Trump declared a national emergency over the coronavirus outbreak. Now, it’s important to note that a heck of a lot of people that have been diagnosed with coronavirus have made a full recovery. By no means do we have experts on the coronavirus on this show today but any factual information we quote will be from the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which you can visit for more information on COVID-19 at CDC.gov. My guests today work in two different fields at this time and like many of us, myself included, have been directly impacted by the coronavirus fears blanketing America, particularly in Southern California. Claire is an Assignment Editor with CBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, and Kateri Wozni is a freelance reporter and Senior Technical Writer. We sit down and have an honest conversation and hopefully some comical relief that is badly needed in such turbulent times. For more information on the coronavirus, visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html. ----more---- Send your comments and questions to hangrymexicanpodcast@gmail.com. These words from my guest today, Howard Raishbrook. Howard runs the famed RMG News stringer service out of Los Angeles with his two brothers Austin and Marc. RMG News supplies TV News stations in LA and around the globe with high-octane breaking news footage on a daily basis. Those words are from my guest today, digital content creator and host/creator of From Here to Where, a podcast aimed at empowering women everywhere, Sarah Trott. 21 - The importance of ’The Barber’ in communities and our lives with barber Jackie Aldridge

8/19/2019
We all get them, some sooner than others, and it usually makes us feel good -- I'm talking about getting a haircut. The barber or hairstylist is sometimes underrated but if you really think about it, they're there for most milestones in our life. I visited Jackie over at The Barbershop at The Collection at Riverpark in Oxnard, California and got into a philosophical conversation about the importance of the barber and the significant impact they have in communities.
