[Red Letter Challenge] Colleen Pfitzinger, Northwest Christian Third Grade Teacher: Matthew 8 and Helping Students to Understand 'Who' and 'What' They Are

4/15/2024
As you watch Colleen Pfitzinger, a member of Northwest Christian's third grade team, around campus, you might be tempted to think she's a bit reserved. But, that's not the story that's coming out of her classroom. Nope. For years, students have reported quite the opposite: that Colleen is not reserved, rather, she's a riot in the classroom...that Colleen knows how to make learning fun. And, when learning is fun, students cannot get enough. Today, we have the chance to hear from Colleen: her testimony, her strategies for teaching, and her reflections on where we are in the Red Letter Challenge--Matthew 8. ["What about?" Wednesday] Robby Lashua of Stand to Reason: What about Luke 2:52? Is there an Evolving Christology within the Gospels?

4/10/2024
At first glance, Luke 2:52 seems harmless enough. "Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man." But, wait a minute... Jesus increased in wisdom? In other words, the pre-incarnate Word from John 1 "grew in wisdom" over the course of time? How? Or, Colossians 1's pre-existent, uncreated God-in-the-flesh became more wise? Further, how did Jesus increase in favor with God? Is Luke suggesting that at one point God favored Jesus less and then, at another point, He favored Him more? How does that work? And, so the argument goes: as the Gospels were written, the early church had a developing agenda for Jesus and therefore, over time, they began to exaggerate who He was and His significance. Is it possible that there are internal clues within Scripture that reveal an evolving Christology? To the rescue: Robby Lashua, an apologist with Stand to Reason! Robby helps us to understand Luke 2:52... Fore more information on Robby and Stand to Reason, please visit this link! Michael Potter, CEO, Tyndale Group of Christian Schools in Australia: Gut Wrenching Truth about Self-Care in the Midst of Life's Messiness

3/27/2024
As you spend time with Mike Potter, the CEO of the Tyndale Group of Christian Schools in Australia, you are first impressed by his warmth and wit. Actually, more than wit--the dude is seriously funny. Spend even more time and you'll discover a man wholly committed to Christ and meeting the needs of students. Spend a bit more time and, well, that is where things start to get messy. Why? Because Mike pulls no punches about the messiness that nearly shipwrecked him several years ago. He's done more than come through a storm, however. He's come through the storm and then gone back into that storm to share his vital story and the truths it taught him to men and women who are still caught up in the worst of the ugliness that life offers. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, you will be moved by Mike's transparency, candor, and courage. To hear more from Mike Potter, please follow this link. Walker and Tanner Wisely: Experiencing the Sort of Wisdom and Reconciliation that can only be Born from Hardship

3/25/2024
Tanner Wisely is a Northwest Christian alum that is presently serving in the U.S. Army in Fort Bliss, Texas and about to move to a new post in Germany. Walker, his brother and a NC senior, is getting ready to play football at Western New Mexico University. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, you will here from two brothers who are the best of friends. But it has not always been this way. In fact, for a number of years, the two were estranged. But, over time, things changed...and, not always for the better. Nevertheless, as we'll hear today, these two brothers realize that their Heavenly Father used hardship, trials, and trauma--including the loss of their earthly father--to grow them as individuals and, ultimately, to reconcile their relationship. These are two of the toughest dudes Northwest Christian has ever graduated but you better grab a box of tissues because this conversation is very, very real and emotionally raw. Steve Downes, Executive Principal, Calvary Christian College in Australia: Public School Flight, Indigenous Peoples, and the Best Album by Midnight Oil

3/20/2024
To say that Australian education is unique from American education is an understatement. Yet, even within that paradigm, Steve Downes' Calvary Christian College is vastly different than most Australian Christian schools. How? That's the subject of today's far-reaching Kingdom Culture Conversation. So far-reaching, in fact, that we learn of an Aussie's inability to select the finest album from the amazing slate of classic rock albums from the greatest-ever Australian band, Midnight Oil. [Red Letter Challenge] Tyler and Tammy Collins: John 8 Finds Jesus Comforting the Afflicted and Afflicting the Comfortable

3/11/2024
In the span of a singularly beautiful chapter, John 8, we see Jesus coming to terms with the broken--a woman caught in adultery, facing a death sentence--and the self-righteous. As we will hear from Tyler and Tammy Collins today, Jesus does this all with His inimitable grace and truth. Teaching Sophomore Bible, Tyler serves as the chair of Northwest Christian's Bible department. And, Tammy serves administratively as the hub of the front office. Paul Campey, Partner, Resolve Consultants: A Candid Deep Dive into the Financial Sustainability of Christian Education Generally and Northwest Christian School Specifically

3/8/2024
As we will learn today, education in Australia is different. Very different. Without the stringent separation between church and state that we find in the U.S., the Australian government uses public funding to support both public and private schools. As a result, close to half of Australian students are enrolled in private education with many of these young people enrolled in faith-based schools. But, there's a catch. In Australia, the government requires strict financial reporting of these schools. Paul Campey, an Aussie with feet in both the CPA world and the world of Christian education founded Resolve Consultants in order to stand in the gap. Paul developed a thorough reporting instrument that both provides the Australian government with the peace of mind that they are seeking and the ability for Australian Christian schools to glean a clear understanding of their financial standing and sustainability. Having run this program for years, establishing a baseline for sustainable, financial performance through developing a series of Key Performance Indicators, Paul began to wonder how Australian baselines compared against American baselines. He was stunned to discover that no one in the U.S. was doing the sort of financial analysis that he was providing. Today, we will hear Paul's story, learn how Grand Canyon University worked to bring Resolve to the U.S., and how American Christian ed is performing generally. More to the point, having now done two analyses of Northwest Christian School over three years, Paul will reveal--candidly and forthrightly--how NCS is faring today and how it will likely fare in the years to come! [Build Here, Build There Update] Jon Coughlin, President, City of Joy International: How a Northwest Christian Building Project is Building the Kingdom in Rwanda, Africa

2/29/2024
As part of an update on Northwest Christian's unconventional building campaign, today's episode presents an opportunity to see how "Build Here" and "Build There" are both working together to further God's Kingdom purposes simultaneously in Phoenix, Arizona and Rwanda, Africa. "Unconventional" may be an understatement. When BHBT was announced two years ago, the school recognized that if Biblical worldview was the mission-specific objective of the school, then it needed to be made manifest in every aspect of the school, including this building program. Given that "sacrificial generosity" is an element within Biblical worldview, the school communicated that it would be taking a portion of the BHBT proceeds and distributing those to five vital Missions Learning partners, including the City of Joy Christian School in Rwanda where NCS students and staff serve both virtually and physically. Today, G and Geoff are joined by Jon Coughlin, the City of Joy president, to hear how those funds are impacting his school in Africa. At the same time, as evidence of the beautiful synergy that can happen when ministries work together, today, as this episode is published, the walls on Northwest Christian's new classroom building are going up in Phoenix. Don't miss this moving update! For more information on the City of Joy, please visit this link. [Red Letter Challenge] Denise Skinner: Luke 18 and Making God's Word a Priority in the Home

2/26/2024
We have kicked off the annual Red Letter Challenge and you are invited to join us! Each year, as he did this year during chapel on January 24th, Geoff challenges the elementary students to read one chapter of the four gospels each day over the span of four months. In so doing, the school community moves corporately through Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, come to see and understand Jesus, together, in fresh ways. Today, G and Geoff are joined by first grade teacher Denise Skinner. Denise is the wife of a physician (like Luke!) and the mother of four boys. As they consider Luke 18, you will hear how Denise and her husband manage to make God's word a priority within their home and in the lives four very busy boys. Scott MacIntyre, American Idol Contestant and Musical Missionary: What do the blind 'see' when they dream?

2/22/2024
Born blind and with a life-threatening genetic kidney disorder, Scott MacIntyre has had plenty of excuses to be discouraged. Nevertheless, his indomitable disposition, self-effacing sense of humor, and realization of joy in Christ has kept him on a course that has allowed him to use his abundant musical gifts for the glory of God. Along the way, that course led him to the upper echelons of contestants within American Idol. But, that was just the start of an amazing journey! Today, in a surprise mid-week episode, Scott joins G and Geoff for a Kingdom Culture Conversation that will give listeners a perspective on joy and suffering that is hard-earned and wise beyond counsel... [Red Letter Challenge] Andrew Coley, NCS Director of Curriculum and Instruction: Luke 11 Cues Our Response to a Hostile Culture

2/19/2024
We have kicked off the annual Red Letter Challenge and you are invited to join us! Each year, as he did this year during chapel on January 24th, Geoff challenges the elementary students to read one chapter of the four gospels each day over the span of four months. In so doing, the school community moves corporately through Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, come to see and understand Jesus, together, in fresh ways. Today, G and Geoff are joined by Northwest Christian's secondary Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Andrew Coley. After bringing us up to speed on the school's professional development, testing, and eSports--as well as his family--Andy challenges us to consider the priority of prayer within our lives. And, there's an interesting turn in today's Kingdom Culture Conversation: how would Jesus encourage us to respond as His followers to a culture that has turned hostile towards Christianity?
