Compassion this Christmas - Nothing Matters More than You - Meet Chaney Mullins Gooley of Her Plan

12/16/2022
Chaney joins us and discusses how she had a change of heart after meeting a single mom in a class she was taking. She turned from judgement to compassion as it relates to seeing what single parents face in life. She says, "No matter the journey, there HAS to be support - there HAS to be a safety net". She encourages single parents to ask for help and wants us to remember that we are NOT a burden and should not carry shame when life gets tough and we need assistance for ourselves and our children. In fact, she says, "Well Done" if you have asked for help. And, now she is a part of Her Plan that is helping connect providers and create a common place where help can be made more accessible for single parents (particularly of young children). Here is her bio: She was Her Plan’s first hire in 2019, coming from her work in the women’s healthcare sphere, where she saw firsthand the need for comprehensive care and service coordination. In her role as Program Manager for Her PLAN, Chaney helps facilitate national provider engagement, connection to national training resources for assistance providers, and Her PLAN’s presence at national conferences. She also assists in the directory building process as Her PLAN expands to more states. Single Parent Advocate is dedicated to equipping, empowering, and encouraging single parent families. Happy Mother’s Day to Single Parents This Weekend - Meet Toye Penny -Author and creator of The Love You More Method℠

5/4/2022
Meet our Guest Speaker and New Friend who will be joining our community for Mother's Day! Her name is Toye Penny and she is on a mission to help us learn to take care of ourselves inside and out! She has had an incredible journey and has overcome obstacles and shares her insights as well as some great recipes in her book "Love Them, Love You More." Here is some more about Toye: After tragically losing her mother to Lupus at 9 years old, being sexually abused at 13, becoming a teen mom at 16, meeting her father for the first time at 17 and being involved in a tumultuous relationship with an older man by 18, Toye found herself at 23 years old in the right place at the right time where she became the CEO of a high-end, luxury day spa. Although she was financially flexible and created a great lifestyle for herself and her daughter; she had unresolved childhood trauma, carried a high mental load and placed high value on her company and brand that was also her complete identity. While her facade said "I've got it all together in my career", her personal life, relationships and her complete well-being was falling apart. Now, as a wife, mom of 3, Luxury Well-Being Strategist, Author and creator of The Love You More Method℠, Toye serves as The “CEO Mom Interventionist” and exclusively guides other high profile women who are raising children at home through The Love You More Method℠ so they can reduce mental load, drop the “functioning addiction cycle”, prevent the risk of a health break down and model this same behavior for everyone connected to her. In her book, Love “Them”, Love You More, a correlation of her methodology, Toye reveals actionable strategies on how you can apply The Love You More Method directly to your life so you can continue to DOMINATE in your industry and effectively serve in your purpose while modeling well-being for generations to come. How can I be so active as a Single Parent - and STILL FEEL Lonely? Exploring Friends This Holiday Season

11/29/2021
In today's podcast, we discuss ways to overcome loneliness. Tune in for trends in American friendship and also insights on how to overcome feeling lonely. We hope this is meaningful especially during this holiday season. Life as a single parent is FILLED with activity. From children's appointments and schedules to our own, we hop from one place to another with work, school, errands, and more. Still, many feel alone and lonely despite all the activity in their lives. In fact, there has been a survey done revealing that there is an actual decline in close friendships across the US population, and that loneliness is a real concern for single parents, their children, and many others who are isolated in some fashion. We walk through overcoming loneliness when we lose a lifemate, change jobs, or endure illness or anxiety of some kind. In the end, we agree, that while there are many ways to be active, this does not replace authentic, two-way connection ... the time we invest in relationships is likely the most important thing we can do to ensure a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. What Lights You Up Pt 2 - Marla Diann-International Business Coach-Former Single Mom-Key Takeaways for Single Parents

11/22/2021
Tune in for Part 2 with Marla Diann as she shares how we can become more successful through career and job transition. She challenges us to answer the question, "What Lights You UP?" You can nurture your success with creativity and with JOY! #1-Give Yourself Permission to Pursue your DREAMS! (from Pt1) #2-Be loyal to YOUR feelings of JOY! Balance creative things that feed your spirit with the practical. Listen to your intuition and instincts. This actually fuels your business and practical success! #3-Stop PUSHING and Start ALLOWING! Operate through inspired action (self care along the way to the goal...not just tasks first, self later). Avoid burnout in our hearts and bodies. Open up to healing and welcoming a balance of action, spirituality and opportunity in new ways. This involves being open, authentic, and letting go of controlling instincts and welcoming faith, trust, gratitude, vision, and creativity. Aligning and sometimes re-aligning our talents to a new position or field that aligns with joy. #4-Success is an Inside Job - Success is 80% mindset and 20% mechanics. Prayer, meditation, self exploration. Recommit every time you get disconnected from your spiritual center, or find yourself living from your head up, in order to truly live our best life. Simply shift, let go of fear, and accept and believe that good things can come easily. Remember you are not alone! #5-Get in Connection with your Numbers. Money is innocent of the fear, worry, doubt, lack, shame, guilt, and judgment that we put on it. Money is a blessing and a tool. Our habits, behaviors and mindset surrounding money can be reframed around action, faith, trust, abundance, energy, worth, and value. This leads to better results and higher success. #6-Live by Gratitude. Gratitude is a multiplier of Good. Take time to be thankful for things already in your life, and also things that are yet to be seen, including a new job with the right work/life balance and income. Choose faith and love over fear/worry/doubt. Marla offers Free Handouts at https://www.marladianne.com/free. Single Parents Finding our Path to Success- How to Land on our Feet During Career Transitions - Finding New Horizons in our Work

10/11/2021
When you are the only wage earner in your home, and raising children alone, career and job changes can strike fear in our hearts and minds. Job loss can leave us hurt, or even bitter. However, there are SO MANY resources available to help us land on our feet like Career One Stop and local organizations affiliated with them. Here are a few ideas to help: Be Open to Change....If we can learn to be more comfortable with changes, we can protect our mental wellbeing and land on our feet. Remember you are not alone - there are many going through this Identify your resources - be sure to ask for help, apply for assistance. Cultivate a network of support - isolation and "hiding" is not the answer. Attend networking events, get in touch with your local chamber of commerce, talk with friends and fellow parents. Don't be afraid to share your experience with those who might be able to equip or empower you and your family. Take one step out the door, and learn about others. Make your job search your full time focus. Keep or maintain a routine. Join a collaborative working office like Venture X or other types of shared office spaces. "Your job is now finding a job." Be curious, learn new things. Give yourself some grace and have fun meeting new people. Take care of your mind and body. Maintain your physical wellness. Exercise, eat well, get your sleep. Remember you cannot take care of your children or secure a job if you are not physically, mentally, and spiritually centered. Pick a path that suits YOU and your family. Things change. Take inventory about your needs such as flexible location or hours, child care. Make a wish list about what will support your family well. Don't Get Stuck - Learn something new and be open to educating yourself, getting new certifications, or continuing your education. Be willing to learn and explore your interests. Perhaps explore freelancing on Upwork, Fiver, and other options like becoming self employed. Be open to broaden your perspective to welcome success from multiple avenues. 9/28/2021
When we try to spend quality time with our children, the journey often involves "curve balls". Whether it is the weather, changing circumstances, or surprises along the way - we can get derailed and lose perspective, but if we "hang in there" we often have a chance to build the best memories by keeping things simple. Today we talk about summer vacations with our children and how much we learned as parents when we look back at the times when we gave it our best to provide incredible experiences, but our efforts yielded a big lesson - not only in our surroundings, but in ourselves.
