A spiritual experience in the woods near Whistler, BC convinced this man that his rowing journey was not over yet, and pushed him to Tokyo 2020. Gavin Stone has the lungs and the muscle. Hailing from Island Lake Rowing Club in Orangeville, ON, this gentleman is pursuing chemical engineering and wastewater management. Luke Gadson was inspired to pursue his Olympic Journey by 2012 Olympian, Doug Csima at the Leander Club in Hamilton, Ontario. He is an aspiring Journeyman Electrician. Jakub Buczek started his career as a lightweight but has since built out his body to be a competitor in the heavyweight competition. What is it like to win a world championship and hug your cancer-free mom? What's the difference between peak racing performance and steady training performance? What does crying tell you during training? How do you manage clinical depression while training for the Olympics? We find these answers in today's episode with Hillary Janssens and Caileigh Filmer Women's Pair (W2-). They call themselves the workhorses and these two ladies are incredible athletes who will go deeper into their pasts. Especially Caileigh in her past of being a swimmer and elite swimmer who had a lot of potential within that sport, and ended up transitioning into rowing. She described her perspective as a young person who's now mature and much older who has this perspective as well. In the first episode of Row Row Tokyo, let's get to know the Canadian Men's Pair, Conlin McCabe and Kai Langerfeld, training for Tokyo 2020. We dive into: We're looking forward to seeing what Conlin McCabe and Kai Langerfeld can deliver on the games of Tokyo 2020. Get to Know the Athletes: Calm and determined, Kai Langerfeld grew up in British Columbia and is the son of York Langerfeld and Olympic Rower who competed in 1976. As a young man, his roofing career gave way to education at UVic, where he trained as a rower. His Olympic commitment was made while working at Costco, watching the rotisserie chicken cook. A fierce competitor with an unmatched power supply, Conlin McCabe grew up in Brockville, Ontario and had a mother who loved club rowing. After his experience at the University of Washington, he competed at the London Olympics, winning silver in the men's eight.
