Beautifully Broken with Ella Shae

4/26/2024
Sometimes in life we believe in order to inspire you have to have it all together. That is not the case. Today's guest is Ella Shae. ............................. Mental health advocate Ella Shae’s book, From Broken to Beautifully Broken, offers her first-hand experience on the importance of self-care and why taking time for yourself ultimately makes you a better partner, parent, companion, and friend. Her story begins with a traumatic car accident as a child that later manifested in an eating disorder. It provides relatable moments, encouraging readers to use their own voice to advocate for themselves. ........................ Ella's journey with mental health awareness began at an early age of 4 years old after a car accident that could have killed her, but instead left her with lasting scars. As the years progressed in her journey, so did the traumas and challenges with her mental health. It wasn’t until a compilation of many mental health struggles presented themselves as an eating disorder, that she finally received the proper treatment to work through 35 years of trauma. After years of therapy, Ella was finally able to reopen her old wounds that had been haunting her. She learned that trauma does not have to make you a victim. In fact, it was her grief that helped her to grow into the best version of herself. ...................... Supporting Black Moms beyond Black Maternal Health Week

4/17/2024
What is the call to action for Black Maternal Health week? To save our black moms. All moms deserve to deliver safely, to be heard during postpartum care and more. But we know that there is a disparity. According to the CDC: Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality healthcare, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism, and implicit bias. ............................... We can do our part by believing and supporting black moms. Here is my story. Christmas is a wonderful holiday. Everyone is getting gifts and you may be thinking of what you don't have, missing those who aren't here, and so much more. The Gospel according to Jess

12/15/2023
Oh how transformative gospel music can be. However when you are queer the church institution is one of the most isolating. Trying to water who you are out of fear of not being accepted is one thing but straying away from the faith seems to be the solution until Jess performed in the Color Purple Broadway show and it brought her back to it all. ....................... Tune in as we listen to Jessica Johnson as we talk about how the power of gospel music is so transformative. In addition catch Jess as she and the community in Norristown shines the light on the weekend of December 15-17th at Theatre Horizon. There are several performances to come out and hear the joy of the season in music. ............................................ I also talk about taking care of you during this holiday season, the rules of Christmas, and an adoration to not overspend and stay grounded this holiday season. Also for those who are grieving during this time or having a hard time you aren't alone and I talk about that too by also giving honor to my Great Grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Sims who I miss dearly. Back then isn't Our Right Now

We respect and love what back then taught us. We love the richness of the history but right now we also have to add in skills set to live that helps us be better people. ...................................... With Mental Health often times people are scared to try the things that could help them because someone in their life with no knowledge on if that new tactic will work is discouraging them from getting the help they need. This isn't fair. Not going to therapy because you have been conditioned to keep things "in house" could be the dynamic that holds you back from living in your purpose. ...............................
